Jan. Dragonfire World Cup: Saturday Moto 1 ProUTV: DNF Robert broke the tranny. Sunday Moto 1 ProUTV: 1st place. Robert did so well he decided to enter the Open UTV class on Sunday and placed 1st also.
Jan. Monster Jam: Moto 1: 1st place. Moto 2: hard to say, he was taken out at the start and caught up to the front. The announcer said he was the winner. :)
Feb. Soboba Grand Prix: DNF. this would have been a long race, but Robert only made it about 500 yards into the first lap before he broke. It was a great start, he got the hole shot. There were about 40 UTV's starting this race. They all lined up in one single line. It was crazy!
Mar. Extreme-X Action Sports: Moto 1: 2nd place, Moto 2: DNF. Robert got the holeshot on both races, but was having problems with his suspension and his car was pushing in the corners. In other words, he could not corner properly and all his speed/power did him little good. He ended up breaking. That seems to be a re-occurring theme, but things are getting better I promise, keep reading. :)
MAR. UTV Quad Cross: Moto 1: 1st place, Moto 2: 1st place. See, both races finished and no breaking.
Mar. WORCs Lake Havasu City: 3rd place. This is one long, hard race. Robert should have won this race, but on the last lap they came up on a overturned UTV that stopped the traffic for almost 4 minutes. This track is barely big enough for one UTV and there are very few passing areas. The UTV that rolled over was in a canyon, there was no way to get around him so they had to wait. Robert and another racer had a 3 1/2 minute lead on the entire field, but sitting there for so long that lead was ruined. It was still a great race, it lasted for 45 minutes. Bronco Dan raced with us, he and Robert had major arm pump after the race.
April Speedworld Quad Cross: Moto 1: 1st place, Moto 2: 1st place. Great race, Robert pretty much checked out and cruised the track. Xtreme had worked on his suspension to dial it in better. The car worked great, oh and Robert drove pretty good too.
April ITP Quad Cross @ ACP: Moto 1: 2nd place, Moto 2: 1st place ~ 1st place overall. This was an amazing track. ACP is a National race track for motorcross, so it is a very technical track and definitely not made for UTV's. I have some amazing pictures of the UTV's trying the jumps.
April CORR Round 1/2 Pomona, CA: Saturday Qualifying: 3rd poll position. Saturday Race: 14th. Robert's drive line came out early in the race, then he started seeing oil. He shut it down in lap 7 of 10 not wanting to lose his motor. Of the 24 UTV's that started only 10 finished. Sunday Qualifying: 2nd poll position. Sunday Race: 1st PLACE!! This was a crazy race. The Wellers discovered that Robert's case was cracked. They brought along my 720cc motor as a backup, and they put it in Robert's car Saturday night. He ROCKED with my motor! He won, he won. The boy knows how to drive a car. As of right now he is 2nd place overall in points for CORR, only 1 point behind the leader. Now all we need is 14 more wins.
May Down N Dirty Off Road Tour: Moto 1: 1st place, Moto 2: 1st place. Good race. Robert had his 800 back in the car and he was flying.
May CORR Round 3/4 Primm, NV: Mechanical failures so small can cause such disappointment! Saturday was amazing, Robert qualified for the second poll position on Friday. For Saturday's race they inverted the top ten qualifiers to make the race more interesting for the fans, so Robert started in the 9th position. He lead the race through the manditory yellow lap that bunches the field back up AND his clutch belt shredded with 2 1/2 laps left!! OHHhhh, it was a great race too. He was battling it out pretty good with Chad George of Funco Racing. Sunday started out great also, CORR again inverted the field so Robert started mid pack again. He lead through the manditory yellow lap. To everyones disappointment his bracket that holds his air cleaner and carborator on broke. He could try to hold his carb in place, but you know it is hard to drive with one hand. He did try to finish, but it was so hot he was wiped out. He did get points for both races, enough to keep him in the top ten in overall points. But it is okay, he will do great next time. As usual the Weller's were a great help getting the clutch fixed for Sunday. And we had a special treat, the guys from Xtreme came out to support and help their sponsored racers. Thank you Bill, Scott, and Jim!! We did have one of our team podium on Saturday, good job Dan.
June CORR Round 5/6 Pomona, CA: Robert qualified on Friday with the third fastest time. CORR was keeping the track so muddy the qualifying times were 3 to 4 seconds slower than everyones practice times that day. They inverted the top ten qualifiers as usual, so Robert started in the 7th position in the race on Saturday. He drove great and placed 1st. On Sunday, Robert qualified with the 2nd fastest time and started in the 8th position (inverted field again). He won third place, his driving was superb but Todd Arthur's teammate did an equally good job of blocking and break checking Robert in the corners. The car was plagued both days with minor issues. They tinkered with it Saturday and Sunday, it was enough of an issue the motor was boggy on Sunday and he did not have the power he usually does. By the end of the race on Sunday Robert decided that it was the fuel pump. We now have six weeks until the next race in Chula Vista--we will be ready!! :) Every one was plagued with minor issues. Dan was having trouble both days with belts and carb issues and Spooner lost a belt on Sunday. Mike had a flat on Saturday and lost his belt on Sunday. Corry finished both days and Tony did well on Saturday. The Weller's did a great job keeping on top of everyones motor quandaries--Thank you! And Thank you Shane and Danny for all the effort you put in, we appreciate it. :) It was a great weekend!
June 21 Speedworld/ITP Quadcross: Well, this was a disappointing night. Robert started out great in moto 1. He got the hole shot, but they changed the track and he cased a jump in a dark area of the track and broke his car. He also had a pretty good case of whiplash. Moto 1: DNF. Moto 2: DNS.
June 27 Whiplash @ Fort McDowell: Whiplash races are long desert races, not something Robert usually does. However, he decided he wanted to race this race. It was in the desert on the Fort McDowell Indian Reservation not far from home. The race was 2 hours long and started at 7 pm, so it ended in the dark. I believe there were 5 different classes and about 35 Rhinos that started the race in those various classes. Robert ran the Baja Pro class. He did really well, he placed 2nd in his class. It was a crazy night. It was funny watching him come down the track where we were parked, he only had one light which was not enough to see in the dark.
CORR Round 7/8 Chula Vista, CA: This was a very nice weekend, the weather was beautiful! And the racing was pretty good as well. Saturday and Sunday Robert placed 3rd. The last lap of Sundays race was a photo finish between Robert and Todd Arthur. They were literally 2 thousandth of a second apart crossing the finish line. It was great. He still holds 2nd in overall points so far for the series. His car ran pretty good the entire weekend, but he did not have the power he is used too. Hopefully he will present more of a challenge at the next rounds. The Weller are working on getting his engine to produce the horse power it has had in the past, I know they can do it. We had a special treat again this weekend Xtreme, Jimmy and Scott, came out to support all the XMF racers. It was great to have them there. :)
CORR Round 9/10 Pomona, CA: Ahhh, our last trip of the season to Pomona. We had a good weekend, the car was running strong and did well both Saturday and Sunday against the newly introduced Kawasaki Terex. We placed 2nd on both days which puts Robert in the 1st place lead for overall points in the Series. Once again we have to give a big thanks to the Weller's & XMF for all there hard work over the weekend. During qualifying on Sunday, Roberts rear shock mount started to rip away from the frame! Everyone worked really hard to get it fixed in time for the race two hours later. Thanks again guys!!
Whiplash Offroad Racing Heber, AZ: Robert does not usually race desert. He enjoys the short course racing more, but ever since the raced this race during his pro quad days he cannot seem to stay away! He ran the poker run on Friday afternoon with Steve Smith IN MY CAR! He is lucky he did not scratch it! They had fun. Jason brought his car up on Saturday morning, thank you for making the trip. We had lots of support while we were there, thank you to everyone. It was a tough race, the course is always rough and very few of the fifty some odd UTV's that started did not finish. Unfortunately, Robert was one the many that did not finish all five of the 28 mile laps. He did get in two laps and placed 9th. They were trying a new belt on his clutch he ended up going through 4 belts! I do not think they will use those belts anymore. It was a great weekend anyway, the weather was amazing! I will take the 70's and 80's any day of the week. :)
Sept. 13-14 CORR Chula Vista, CA Rnd 11/12: This was one crazy weekend! I think we went through 4 engine changes, it was disappointing to say the least. Robert's big motor blew in practice on Friday and thanks to the generosity and great help of fellow racers/sponsors we had a motor in for qualifying several hours later. So, a huge thank you to Brad and Jacob Person for allowing us to use your spare motor not once but twice. And thank you to Jimmy and Scott of XMF for helping out with everything, we could not have done it without you. And of course we have to thank Shane and the Kimbrells for helping also. Well, the motor swap on Friday did not go exactly smooth and Robert did not get to qualify. So, he started in the back of the pack for Saturdays race. Unfortunately Robert's backup motor did not last the race and he finished 15th. Sunday we borrowed the Person's backup motor again, it was very generous on there part, as Jacob has lost his motor in qualifying Sunday morning. They allowed to use his spare motor since Robert was at that point first in the points standings. Robert qualified fourth fastest, so he started the seventh starting position. He played back in forth between 2nd and 3rd for a better part of the race. He was driving his heart out with the small motor against the Kawi's. In the second to last lap Bronco Dan lost control of his car and slammed into Robert taking him out of the race. Robert placed 16th on Sunday dropping him to 2nd place overall. It was a crazy weekend.
Fort McDowell WOR Oct. 4/5, 2008: This was a fun weekend. The weather was great-a little rainy and cool. Perfect for a desert race. The race was an hour and a half long on a 6 mile loop. Robert entered the Baja Pro class again and kicked butt, nothing like a first place win. No one came close to him for the whole race, it was great.
Oct 25/26, 2008 CORR Primm, NV: Another disappointment, but not from mechanical failures this weekend. CORR cancelled the race due to the financial climate. But they will add another day of racing to the final race in Chula Vista in December to make up for the missed races.
Nov 1/2 WOR @ Firebird Phx, AZ: This was one busy weekend. Whiplash had two very full days of racing, both short course and desert. Robert decided to run the short course as well as the Baja Pro class because the short course was modeled after CORR. Robert placed 1st for the combined points of Saturday and Sunday in both the short course class and the Baja Pro Class. It was a great weekend.
Nov. 15 Dragon Fire Race @ ET Mesa, AZ: Well, Robert ran fast on this track and it was a good day of racing. Robert qualified in the top spot in the morning. For the first race he got the hole shot and held the lead for a good part of the race. Robert and Dan Kelly put on a good show until Robert lost an oil line at the end and had to pull off. They were able to get it fixed for the next race and Robert won. He drove great and again Dan and Robert put on another great show. It would have been a perfect Saturday, but ohhhh the wind.
